Why you should watch “Ghoomketu”, a laugh riot on ZEE5

That the lockdown and the shuttering of malls and movie theatres have driven a film crazy country (like India) nuts cannot be denied. This is where OTT platforms such as ZEE5 come to the rescue, driving away boredom with fresh content including new Indian movies, especially right now. The stupendous growth of Indian movies online in OTT platforms in the previous few months is testament to the fact that the Indian audience has matured in terms of appreciating the content, irrespective of the medium it is offered, especially in this era of social distancing.

Much has been discussed online and in regular media about the content that various OTT platforms air but there is no doubt that the recent spurt in Indian Hindi films, as well as movies in other languages, take the cake in terms of audience appeal vis-à-vis other shows and media content.

Today’s take is on a ZEE5 original Indian Hindi movie, Ghoomketu, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Anurag Kashyap and Ila Arun among others.

The plot of Ghoomketu

Nawazuddin Siddiqui as & in Ghoomketu, an aspiring screenwriter trod the well-worn path from his village to Bollywood in search of greatness. A ZEE5 original and a comedy-drama movie, it showcases the travails of a worldly unwise protagonist who dreams big but has entirely impractical life expectations and runs away to Mumbai after he is married. Quirky yet funny, the tales of Ghoomketu’s family who do not often see eye-to-eye with him and yet love him for the way he is, adds to a good backstory. Nawazuddin and Anurag Kashyap’s jugalbandi is yet another draw. Special appearances by Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha bring a comical twist to Ghoomketu.

The story takes a new turn, when Guddan, a political leader pressurizes Maharashtra Police and a lazy Inspector Badlani to locate Ghoomketu within 30 days. Watch renowned director Anurag Kashyap playing the role of a cop in this latest comedy film. Ila Arun’s portrayal of Ghoomketu’s aunt and her eccentric troubles bring the house down with their hilarity. Not surprisingly and given the ensemble cast, Ghoomketu, as a character speaks to the audience and this relatability factor is what makes it stand out from regular movies. The village backdrop, the gift of a self-written guidebook of successful Bollywood scriptwriting by the village magazine editor all add to the movie panache.

Raghuvir Yadav as Ghoomketu’s short-tempered father steals the show with his silly brawls and angry arguments.

Amitabh Bachchan makes a surprise cameo appearance as well in the movie.

Watch Ghoomketu now if you haven’t seen it. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Anurag Kashyap are a complete laugh riot!
