An iconic advertisement in the 90’s which popularised the Tomchi sauce, a combination of tomatoes and chillies has been on my mind a lot lately. The ad shows the actor getting confused with the ingredients of the sauce as to whether its a potato or a chilli.
Why am I talking about this today?
Tomato and potatoes are a staple in every Indian dish but do you know what’s a Pomato?
A tomato plant grafted on to the potato plant! The combo is called pomato or tomato. It has potatoes for roots and tomatoes for fruits!
How convenient! You can pluck the ingredients for making French fries and the sauce for it from the same plant.
Tomatoes and potatoes happen to be very closely related, both belonging to the genus solanum which is why the entire grafting thing is possible.
