Nina & Nana bridge the generation gaps!

IMG_6508.JPGYouza! Are you wondering why I look so happy even though I am a tree? That’s coz I am one of the lucky ones. The humans cajole me lovingly to grow, keep off the pests and strengthen my roots! Well, they actually make bridges outta me, but you’ll know it’s the same 🎋

In Cherrapunji, bridges made across the river or the stream are from the living roots of native rubber trees. The locals strengthen the bridges with various organic materials but are careful to not interfere with the trees delicate ecosystem and tend to the roots carefully. These bridges are said to last sometimes for hundreds of years. Now, that’s the cool fact of the day Nina had been waiting for!
