The Man

IMG_6237.PNG

The man adjusted his dark glasses in the afternoon sun and walked to Abel who was watching him surreptitiously. Tourists were rare at this time of the year.

“Can you take me out to sea?”

“Where?”

Abel watched with surprise as the man’s eyes glazed upon his question and his hands moved on time to an imaginary music.

When the man’s motions finally stopped after ten minutes, he again asked the same question to which Abel’s involuntary “Where?” resulted in the same trance dance.

When the man asked for the third time, Abel agreed unable to hide his curiosity over this evidently hypnotised specimen of mankind.

When Abel stopped the boat a good 3kms out at sea and turned to the man, he was already too late.

The circling sharks had already pulled the man into the water.

  1. You’ve written rather a fascinating story. I don’t know whether you know, but it’s actually quite hard to compel someone by hypnosis to do something against their will. There are some hypnotists who say it can’t be done. Which means that if your MC is acting under compulsion brought about by hypnotic trance, at some level he must agree that it’s appropriate that he’s eaten by sharks…
    As you say, really crazy!

  2. Oh wow, didn’t see it coming! So many questions race in my mind, as I am sure they do so in Abel’s mind too – who was this hypnotic man and what was his plan of coming so far – did he really come to be the food of the hungry sharks?? Guess, we will never get the answers, but I will ponder upon them anyway for some days.
