Bernie stared at the cacophony of lights and sounds. The chaos gave him a thrill of both excitement and fear. It had happened again.
While the firemen and emergency workers ran busily around testing their equipment, he spotted a lone black-clad man staring at the array of vehicles first in bewilderment and then in gathering fury. He stopped by the nearest rescue worker and spoke hurriedly.
As Bernie turned, the door burst open and his dad came in a rage –
“Bernie, how many times have I warned you?”
“But dad, I was just testing if they came in fast enough.”

He needs something useful to keep him occupied while his parents are out, I think!

Definitely. His parents should never have left him alone in the first place!
